Isaan Lyanna

In early December the bones of a woman were found at the edge of the village — the first Iron Age burial of a woman known from Chaiyaphum province.

The excavation was led by Mr. Wannapong Palakawong na Ayudhaya, archaeologist at the 10th Regional Office of Fine Arts, Ministry of Culture.

On a first estimate she lived here around two thousand years ago. Near her, by a sugar cane field, the diggers found a dwelling place, cooking vessels and jewellery. The scientific work on the site is only beginning.

She has been given the name Isaan Lyanna — the mysterious one from Isan.
