Loi Krathong 2567 BE
15. November 2024
ลอยกระทง (Loi Krathong) falls on the full moon of the twelfth lunar month, usually in November.
Small rafts — กระทง — of banana leaf, flowers, a candle and incense are set on the water. They carry away anger and ill feeling from the year, so that one may begin again more lightly. It is also a thanks to พระแม่คงคา, the goddess of the waters, and an apology for the year’s use of them.
2567 by the Buddhist calendar; 2024 by the Western one. The Thai year runs 543 ahead, counted from the passing of the Buddha.
